The plot is located on the sparsely built-up grounds of the protected historical district of Datça, a peninsula in southwest Turkey. Two new buildings were proposed complementing an existing “listed” two-storey stone masonry house: one central building which will be habited during the whole year, whilst the other smaller one will be made available for occasional familiy and friend visits.
The existing building stands on top of a slightly inclined, densely vegetated terrain. It makes up the first image when approaching the estate from the town center, having a vertical, almost monumental character. The proposed array of masonry houses make contrarily a horizontal gesture, which is due to the fact that we simply adapt to the contours of an existing construction pit, the remains of a formerly demolished swimming pool construction.
