This project transforms a former 400-square-meter industrial hangar in the Istanbul Specialized Free Zone into a flexible and vibrant workplace for an IT company. Once a purely utilitarian structure, the building has been reimagined as an open, human-centered environment that supports productivity, collaboration, and social interaction.
The architectural intervention begins at the facade, where the industrial identity of the building is retained and reinterpreted. A new entrance establishes a clear and welcoming threshold, leading directly into the open-plan interior. The original hangar door was replaced with a foldable steel-framed glass system, allowing the interior to fully open toward the exterior. When opened, the inner court—surrounded by a U-shaped mezzanine—becomes an extension of the public realm and functions as a flexible event space.
The interior is organized across two levels: the entrance floor and a mezzanine level. Existing gypsum board partitions on the mezzanine were removed to enhance openness and daylight penetration. The original steel structure was preserved and left exposed, reinforcing the industrial character of the space. New steel railings and a glass-enclosed meeting box were introduced above the inner court, providing functional separation while maintaining visual continuity.
