The Ottoman_The essential furnishing practice rooted in the Ottoman Empire that has given the product its name, the ottoman is a product that translates well to modern use.The central piece of residential seating of its time, the ottoman was first designed as sectional furniture wrapping around the walls of a room in the traditional turkish home, than evolved into smaller versions, liberated from its attachment to walls and transformed into a portable seating module to be used wherever it is needed most. There are two common approaches in design: the ottoman is either treated as a monolithic object or a small stool on supports.

The ottoman’s portability offers a multitude of shapes and functions.

The ottoman, today, is a complementary seating module in contemporary lounge suites and can be used as extra seating, a footrest, a center or side coffee table. Its inherent multi-functionality is what translates well into modern use. It is effortless for the mind.

POINT / pwɛ̃ / is a product, that uses high quality calf leather as upholstery, and perfectly ecologic wheat husk for filling both produced in Turkey.

Its design story was initiated during a field trip of the platz team in the Grand Bazaar, which is always a great source of inspiration for any kind of creative task. The next thing we did was to dive into a journey of form finding experiments. Each step was documented either with the help of small scale maquettes or one to one prototypes, handcrafted by local artisans.

POINT / pwɛ̃ / is a multifunctional object, inspired by its local culture, nature and lifestyle and designed to fit in modern homes, workplaces and public spaces.

Its filling is wheat husk, an entirely ecologic raw material, offers a natural ergonomy with maximum comfort. Its pattern design follows the general design philosophy of platz, reviving the simplicity and harmony nature offers and presents a palate in contemporary design trends.
